Solar on Perdido Key

A barrier island is the hardest place in the county to do solar right and the place where backup power matters most. We will give you straight answers about wind zones, salt, and what actually survives out here.

Solar for Perdido Key, done in the open.

Perdido Key homes live with salt spray, serious wind-load requirements, and a grid connection that is first to go and last to come back when a storm moves through. Solar can absolutely work here, but only with coastal-rated equipment and engineering that respects the wind zone.

We are Ape Solar, a solar shop in Gulf Breeze. We design the system, supply the equipment, and manage the install, performed by a state-licensed electrical contractor. If a particular roof or site is wrong for solar, we say so.

How it works

We run the project. A licensed contractor does the install.

Ape Solar is veteran owned and locally owned. We design your system, supply the equipment from our own Gulf Breeze warehouse, and manage the job from permit to power-on. The physical install is performed by a state-licensed electrical contractor. Advanced Wire Pros (FL license EC13005911) is our primary contractor of record. They pull the permit and carry the license; we own the result.

Every price is published on this site. Run the system builder and you will see the same numbers we see, part by part, before you ever talk to anyone.

What solar looks like on Perdido Key.

Wind load drives everything. Attachment hardware, racking, and panel choice all get specced to the site wind speed, and the engineering paperwork is part of the permit package we manage.

Salt eats cheap hardware. We spec coastal-rated racking and stainless attachment hardware on the island, and we will tell you which gear holds up and which corrodes into a warranty argument.

For stilt homes and condos, the honest answer varies. Some sites are great, some cannot carry an array worth installing. Send the address and we will look before anyone quotes anything.

Thinking about backup power specifically? Start with the battery backup page. Want the money answer first? The cost page has real, dated numbers.

Perdido Key questions we actually get.

Can solar panels survive a hurricane on the Key?

Panels rated and mounted for the wind zone routinely ride out storms that take the grid down. The array is engineered to the site wind speed as part of the permit. No one can promise outcomes in a direct hit, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Who does the installation?

A state-licensed electrical contractor. Advanced Wire Pros (FL license EC13005911) is our primary contractor of record. Ape Solar designs the system, supplies the equipment, and runs the project.

Does salt air shorten the life of a system?

It shortens the life of the wrong hardware. Panels themselves are glass and aluminum and handle coastal life well; the racking, fasteners, and enclosures are where coastal-rated spec matters, and that is how we build island systems.

I am in a condo. Is solar even possible?

Sometimes, and it is association-dependent. Battery backup without solar is often the practical answer for condo units: silent backup power for the essentials with no roof work at all. We design those too.
